An extensive 60-day cruise around the Australian Coast has been cancelled following the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was stranded by the ship on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the group for a pause. The vessel sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the crew became aware the passenger was missing.

A major search operation found her person the next day.

Investigative bodies are examining the tragedy, together with police and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company said that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the rest of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the company was working "to organize the homeward trips of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also published an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Commander" preventing any new passengers from boarding the vessel.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in the port city upon its arrival.

The vessel initially left the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the point of the elderly woman's death. The tropical location was the initial destination on the voyage.

Passengers on the ship - who generally pay substantial amounts of money to take part in the voyage - were taken there for a daily excursion with the possibility of hiking or snorkelling.

Family Reaction

The child of the victim said that her loved ones was "surprised and grieved that the ship left the location after an planned excursion without my mum".

In her statement, she characterized her parent as an "vigorous 80-year-old" who was a member of a walking club.

She added that she hoped the examination would be able to identify what "the operator should have performed that might have preserved Her life".
